International Orthopaedic Nurses Day is celebrated by the orthopaedic nurses around the world on October 30. This celebration was started back in 1990 and it was presented by Senator Carl Levin to then-President George H. W. Bush.
Ortopaedic nurses play an important role in recovery from musculoskeletal diseases and traumas. They provide patients with professional and competent care and they are responsible for different procedures, including removing stitches, installation of orthoses, installation and removal of splints etc.
The first celebration was supported by The National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses and it was held in Michigan. Later this tradition spread across America. Since 2001 it is organised on international level.
